Wyclef For President, In What Life?????

As the situation in Haiti continues to look grim, the Haitian people seem to be finding solace in Wyclef Jeans’ recent decision to run for president of Haiti. The ‘Hip Hop sensation’ most known for his musical talent and artistry, continues to make headlines even with the suspicion centered around him and his charity Yele Haiti.
As it nears almost a year since the earthquakes in Haiti, Clef’s celebrity has brought hope to an otherwise mourning country. A country that is so poverty stricken, living literally means survival of the fittest. Haiti is still in despearate need of an intervention.
They are wearing his shirts and believing in the promises he’s making. But, no one is absolutely sure that Clef has what it takes to lead a people. As far as the haitian people are concerned, Clef has money. He will pay them inexchange for their work, and he’ll return again to save them like the Messiah.

Accorinding to an article on Aolnews.com titled, In Haitian Camps, 'Clef' Is More a State of Mind, when Haitians were asked how much money they thought Clef made every year they responded as such:

"At least $1,000."
"Ten thousand dollars."
"Fifty thousand dollars."
"I don't know. But if he can afford to pay 1,000 people $7 a day to sweep the streets for a month, then probably, he's got money."
Questions regarding his qualifications, his motives and even his decision to continue to reside in America have many politicans and civilians alike watching and scrutinizing every step he makes.
Recent reports have said that the electoral council did not approve Clef to run for presidency. But Clef has since come forward to disprove these claims saying, “I wanted to clarify a rumor on Reuters that there's a list of candidates that came out and that (my) name isn't on it. That's not true. The list is supposed to come out tomorrow ... It's looking good for us." The electoral council will make a decision today August 20th on whether Wyclef Jean can run for presidency.

  1. Its so sad that the people of Haiti are so desperate that they would put all their trust in someone whom I feel is only doing this "good deed" for his own glorification. If he is interested in helping them, does he really have to become the president to do so??? I feel like he could continue to be a savior to those people without becoming their leader. Becoming the president would only put him in the worlds spot light. In my opinion, his help cannot be really genuine if he needs an audience...
